Notes:
Which Minnesota Gopher had the most successful pro career of the last thirty years? I'm going with Mecklenburg, and I don't even think it's close. The native of southwest Minneapolis was a walk-on for the Gopher football team. He became an integral part of the Gopher defense and wound up a 12th round pick of the Denver Broncos in 1983. Once he hit the NFL, he became one of its steadiest and most versatile players. He saw time at all seven line and linebacking positions. In his third year (1985) he earned his first Pro Bowl appearance and was named to the AP All-Pro team. He would finish his career with six Pro Bowl appearances, three All-Pro nominations, and a spot in the Broncos Ring of Fame. Not too shabby for a college walk-on.
