With better luck, Tom Hirsch very well could have been one of the great homegrown North Stars.  A star with the Gophers, he joined the Stars in the spring of 1984 after representing Team USA at the Sarajevo Winter Olympics.  During the following season, he suffered a major shoulder injury that would keep him sidelined for two and a half seasons.  He attempted a comeback during the 1987-88 season, but was only able to play one game before retiring at 25.

I noticed Mr. Hirsch had no previous TTM successes reported on, but I sent him a letter anyway, care of his contracting company.  He responded in five days, also signing my letter and adding "Only because you're a Minneapolis kid!"  Very cool.  Thanks, Tom!
